Most people will enter January trying to recover the amount of spending they did during the holidays.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We’ve been on a tight budget the last couple of years, but we didn’t want that to steer us from the season of giving.

*I’m in no way affiliated with these other bloggers- I do thoroughly enjoy their ideas and craftiness!*

Gift Baskets Or Kits– One year I created bath gift baskets for all the woman in my family. The gift baskets consisted of home-made soaps, scrubs and other bath items. It took me a little while to do them because I made every item from home, but it was so worth it. It was much cheaper than buying gift baskets.

Create an Experience – Since we are RV living full-time, we really don’t have the room for a lot of presents. Plus, ou kids have more than enough toys. A lot of their toys actually got put in storage because we simply didn’t have the room for them in the RV.

For Christmas this year we are going to take our kids somewhere and create memories. We are thinking the Polar Express train ride or maybe a weekend getaway to some place family friendly.

I mentioned earlier that I handmade soaps and scrubs. At most stores, you will pay $7-$20 at least for any bath and body products you buy. I was able to make my items for just a couple dollars per product. If soaps and scrubs aren’t your thing, there are so many more items you can make. I am not very crafty and if it wasn’t for other crafty bloggers on Pinterest I’d probably be giving everyone macaroni cards.

Sometimes we really get in that holiday spirit and over-spend. Set aside the amount of money you plan on spending on Christmas. Don’t add to it and don’t take from it! My husband will be getting a holiday bonus from work and that will be all that we spend on Christmas presents this year. We didn’t have extra for a while, so this has always worked for us to make sure we don’t over-spend.

It’s always best to try to set money aside from the beginning of the year. I understand not having that extra to set aside though!

We do a lot of shopping online. We use Ebates for that. Any cash back we get can either go towards Christmas or bills.

  1. These are great ideas! Totally agree about the fact that all of our kids have too many toys – I think there is just so much more than when we were kids and of course, our little ones are too cute to say no to!

We travel around in our RV, but still have our home. Hope y’all are having a blast!
